saturday night

for as long as i can remember my parents have been having an annual 'tour night' whereupon they have a dinner party at the conclusion of the tour de france where they eat the national cuisine of the winner. this year's winner bradley wiggins is english and that fact coupled with the opening of the london olympics meant that english food was on the menu at my uncle's on saturday night. i haven't inherited their love of cycling (or sport in general) but i love a good theme. the menu consisted of cornish pasties, a ploughman's platter, steak and kidney pie and beef wellington. i made dessert: an eton mess. i think this is the first time i've contributed a plate to a family function - totes grownup.
